As our lives go on there are things that put us down. This could be just a regular day on a college campus or a regular day in your career. Working out helps improve physical, mental, and emotional wellness. And it just happens that the J.R Holder Wellness Center offers many ways to help. We talked to Bailie Gooch, the assistant director, to learn more about the Wellness Center and what it has to offer.
The Wellness Center was founded in 1999 in Alva, Oklahoma. You can find the Wellness Center next to Percefull Fieldhouse and Vinson hall on the east side of the campus. The Wellness Center offers features such as an indoor track, a swimming pool, and a variety of workout machines to meet your every need.
With The Wellness Center located on a college campus, the facility sees both college students and community members on a daily basis. The Wellness Center is open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 9 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm. Before the pandemic, the number of community members who checked in was larger than the number of college students that checked in. “ Currently we’re a little bit closer to half and half between staff, students, and community members with over 200 check-ins a day” said Ms. Gooch. This has to do with people staying at home to work out instead of going to the gyms when businesses started to open back up. During the summer Olivia Yandel and Ms. Gooch were brought on as Director and Assistant director with one thing in common. “[Olivia and I] want to provide a facility, an environment that motivates people and promotes health, physical activity and the mental benefits that exercise provides.”. Along with their mission, The Wellness Center does promote events on their Facebook and Instagram that are open to the public, so people can come in and see what they have to offer. In conclusion, with the many benefits that are offered and the hard work that is being put into it to make it a great facility, The Wellness Center would love to see you join their positive community.
